The 9th annual Kells Blackwater F. C. soccer tournament will take place over three weekends ( it is usually over only 2 weekends . . . it has got so big now, the club have to extended it to three weekends) August, 8th, 9th, 15th, 16th, 22nd and 23rd when between 1500-2000 players from the north east counties of Meath, Louth, Monaghan and Cavan, northern Ireland clubs, Glenavon, Warrenpoint Town and Loghgall Youths were joined by top sides from Westmeath, Kildare, Wicklow and Dublin at the Grange soccer grounds just outside Kells in what has become the most successful underage pre-season soccer tournament in the region.
Speaking after last years tournament, which will saw sides like Belverdere, Cherry Orchard, St.Kevin’s Boys, Rock Celtic, St. Francis, Moone Celtic, Lourdes Celtic and Balloulster United claim honours, last season Patrick Matthews, Kells Blackwater secretary and tournament organiser is hoping that the Tournament will get more teamns then they got last year where they had 107 teams competed over the two weekends in glorious sunshine, including teams from under 9 to under 18. Up 18 teams from the previous year. The tournament have proven a great success amongst the soccer community in the whole region and provides a great opportunity for parents, managers and players from surrounding counties to come together in what is a very competitive tournament in advance of the new season. For this years Tournament, at all the 11 a side age groups, there is 2 competitions cup and shield for the first time in the Tournament.
